A Vibrant Learning Community Committed to Quality Patient Care

Welcome to the MGH/McLean Hospital Psychiatry Residency Program! You are entering psychiatry at an incredibly exciting and critical time in our field. New scientific discoveries and clinical care models are continually transforming our understanding and treatment of mental illness.

Resident Life

Resident wellness is of utmost importance and we approach this from multiple angles, including social and community building events.

A Dedicated Team

The MGH and McLean facilities host by far the largest faculty and the most generously funded psychiatry research program of any Harvard Medical School Hospitals.

Diversity

Diversity is the richness of human differences. Inclusion is when everyone is valued, engaged, and feels connected. At the MGH/McLean Adult Psychiatry Residency Training Program, we believe that diversity is key to our success.

Department Growth and Integration

We are pleased to announce that the Departments of Psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) are merging into a single, integrated Department of Psychiatry under the umbrella of the Mass General Brigham health system. The merger of our academic medical centers will bring new opportunities for clinical, research, educational, and service collaborations.

The Massachusetts General Hospital/McLean Hospital (MGH/McLean) Psychiatry Residency Program and the Brigham and Women’s/Harvard Medical School (BWH/HMS) Psychiatry Residency Program are distinct, exceptional programs affiliated with Harvard Medical School.

A Brief Introduction

The core of each resident’s education is extraordinarily rich clinical experience through all the years of training. Each resident diagnoses and treats a broad range of patients along a continuum of care, and within a variety of treatment settings.
